Advanced Data Analysis Course

1 Aug 2005 - 02:00

11 in-country researchers – from Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Malawi, Nambia and South Africa – attended a three-day course at TIPS on trade analysis and how to use the SADC Trade Database to develop SADC country profiles, which were included in the TIPS/AusAid Trade Performance Review 2005 reference book.

This course was supported by Professor Rob Davies of the University of Zimbabwe, and were conducted over two-and-a-half days at the TIPS offices in Pretoria. The course took participants through a basic introduction to the database before shifting to lectures and practical exercises dealing with more advanced concepts such as intra-industry trade indices, trade intensity indices and revealed comparative advantage indicators. Feedback from participants was highly positive, and TIPS was advised to present the course to a wider audience of policy-makers and research analysts from the region.
